The Good news sounds convincing eh? But the Bad news is more believable…

At first I thought that it was true but later found out that it was just a punch line from a former editor – too late I was already disappointed to ask if he’s serious. But come to think of it, he has a point there because Global Warming (GW) is already a problem 10 years ago and more likely than not, it is now ready to make a big leap to a higher level of destruction.
This has already been a problem for many years . The sarcastic idea is, we find cure for cancers in just two to four years but can’t find a way to nurse our planet. Computers upgrade every six months and phone companies release new models twice every two months but we can’t come up with a technology that will save our atmosphere from depleting.
Can we ever find a way?
Yes! In fact, there are a lot of people who work hard to disseminate information on its harmful effects and ways on how to lessen our contributions to Green House effect by advertising, producing movies, or even traveling from one country to another, but the problem is it seems that they are the only ones who actually put an act to their objectives while others are already contented picking their nose or being a couch potato.
Al Gore’s: An Inconvenient Truth showed one effect of GW to the planet. The case is, if it worsens, the planet’s ice caps will melt causing the sea level to rise, and if it rises, many parts of the United States will submerge to deep sea water including the ground zero! This is a serious call to us, especially to Filipinos because those parts are almost equivalent to a big part of our coastlines. Meaning, the 7100 islands of the Philippines may be reduced to 6100!

The effects of GW are very alarming and very evident. It is so obvious we previously marched on our streets. Let’s take the continuous oil price hike as an example. Fuel is mined in liquid form and liquid evaporates in high temperature which is a product of GW. And if it evaporates, there will be fewer resources. If there is less supply and more demand then there will surely be a price hike. Another example is the rice shortage. Rice is planted during rainy season but due to climate change which is a product of GW; our farmers must delay the planting period because it will be useless if their rice will just die under the scorching sun. In effect, less rice supply plus greater demand equals rice shortage and price hike. Therefore, with these examples we can say that it does not only affect the weather but it can also have an indirect effect to the country’s economy.
But wait, we are not yet done! The question still remains, “Are we really facing a step to higher level of destruction – THE GLOBAL BURNING?”
I don’t know if we really are. But if Global Warming becomes Global Burning, it will greatly alter our way of living.
As said, one bad outcome of GW is the rising of sea level that could submerge some of our mainland. If that happens, we will be confronted to live in a new environment and our body will mutate so as to adapt in the new surroundings. We will evolve into new creatures just to fit in and to have a niche just like other creatures did millions of years ago. We will have bigger eyes, bigger nose, and thicker skin. We will have a bigger heart and a smaller brain and we will be more stupid than we are today. And if worse comes to worst, our atmosphere will deplete more and instead of five layers, we will be left with only two. The earth will become a semi-moon like planet and we will have five pairs of eyes, three pairs of arms and hands, and two pairs of thighs, legs, and feet; or worse, we will look like Michael Jackson!
It may sound outrageous and extremely obnoxious, but it is no longer for all of these things to happen to us (except looking like Michael) especially if we’ll consider Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution which states that organisms evolve according to their surrounding so as to survive and continue living…
We can’t do anything to completely stop Global Warming because it has already become a part of our lives. We use technologies and other factors that create GW to live but we can find a way to control it and find an alternative so as to decrease our contributions to it. If we can use technology to make everything convenient, we can also use it to make the inconvenient truth convenient.
Remember, nature has its own ways of giving things back to us and some of it are already given to us. There is the recent tsunami tragedy in Indonesia; there is the big forest fire in the US; and there is the massive earthquake in China. We can no longer wait until there are five typhoons hitting the country, or tsunami attacks to both sides of the archipelago! Now is the time to take a part in solving this lifetime problem and give a solution.
One hand can’t clap! So we should all help each other in saving the environment possible. We are after all the smartest and most beautiful creature on the face of the planet. It is just a matter of how we use our brains to make things possible. You don’t want to look like that on the photo, do you?
It is never too late to change! It is never too late to save Mother Earth! It is never too late to say that we can surpass Global Warming!
