Is it your duty to stay in the Philippines?

This is the question Mr. Albert Castillo left for us to answer. There are more than a hundred of attendees which mean there will be a hundred set of ideas which might agree to his or might not. I know that many would say that I will be a hypocrite to say that, yes, it is our responsibility to stay in the Philippine, because most would probably say that I am not being practical. And just by saying yes, there might be 99 students who will tell me the same.

Is it your responsibility to stay in the Philippines? Why don’t we rephrase the question. Is it the responsibility of Americans to stay in America?

Well for almost all of my life, Filipinos have been very afraid to experience hardship here in the Philippines, thus, flying abroad to land a more “dignified” job which will alliviate their family from “poverty”. And for almost 15 years now, many Filipinos would prefer to experience hardship in a foreign land to experiencing it here. Isn’t so ironic? It’s like saying, I, would like to wash somebody else’s dish.

We have been very afraid for all our lives and it seems that none of us would like to take risks; and if there are people who are willing to take risk, we would always typecast them as “hypocrites”.

I’ve always believe that the Philippines will be come a feeding ground for business people in the next 10 to 20 years. It is just that we are afraid to sacrifice for the future of our country – for the future of our children and most especially we are afraid to WAIT. We don’t want to experience crisis because we are afraid to think of a solution for it. I believe that if only the right and best of the best people will stay here in the Philippines, our country will boom into a new country that can accommodate all the needs of its natives.

If you think that it is not your responsibility to stay here because you think that you will always take with you the brand of being “Filipino” then think again, because you might just being selfish for think only about yourself and your family. If being practical means, working abroad for the benefit of other countries and helping your family by sending them 30 thousand pesos a month in cold cash, I will prefer being the anti-practical because I can earn as much money here and at the same time, It is my country that I am serving.

If Americans were able to stay in their country why cant us? Why is it an American guy married to a Filipina can manage to convince his wife to live in America? Can a Filipina married to an American do the same? What if the Philippines is a first-world country, will a Filipino dream to go to another country to work? Let’s think.

such an idealistic post... but reality wise, how can the people help the country if the people can't even help themselves...

Yes!! it is such a selfish act to think one's own welfare instead of one's country... but face the truth, you can't sacrifice what comes next of the lives of your family for the sake of being self-righteous...

yes!!! you can earn 30k here in the Philippines.. but can those domestic helper earn that amount of money here in the philippines? sure not...

uy di ako galit sa post mo ha... you really have a good point... but you just can't risk something so important such as your family's future... you may, but your conscience won't take it... you can't give, what you don't have ika nga... cheers;p-glesy the great
